Before I didn't like to read at all. I tried to interest myself in it a bunch of times, but i never caught on. For Christmas I was surprised with a kindle. Ever since i bought my first book on it, I can never put it down. I was never a great writer, I've always had trouble but now whenever I write papers for college or anything else important i make sure i read over it at least two times. Last semester my teacher helped me which made me become better than when I first started college.

This picture is basically describing how society is today and how it has changed over time. Years ago the children held responsibility for their actions now it's completely different. Parents are now accusing the teachers of failing their child because in their eyes, their children are perfect and it's never their fault. Parents in todays society, I believe, are less strict than how parents were years ago. My parents and other adults have mentioned to me the difference of how they were raised than how I am raised. Parents could get away with a lot back then which is why punishment was more harsh.

Yes I completly agree with what you are saying about how parents these days are putting more blame on the teachers instead of actually finding the root of the problem and trying to solve from there. But what I would like to add is that in todays society children are a lot more resourceful as well as conniving than in years past. If a high school student wishes to skip a whole weeks worth of classes without their parents finding out it is much more likely to occur now. Schools notify parents of their childs absence by email or phone number, but as the generations have become more resourceful at a younger age one could simply change their school contact information to a fake address or their own cell phone. I had numerous friends do this themselves so i know that it can be accomplished. This is possibly why parents have turned the tables as time has passed, they truly don't know who to blame sometimes i believe.
ReplyDeleteI like this picture and I definitely lean more to the side of believing that parents and children should be held accountable for grades and behaviors. I do however think this cartoon could have some different meanings along with the ones you described. I have been watching a documentary called "Waiting on Superman" on Americas failing schools, and I have realized that sometimes, the teacher/school just really doesn't care as much as they should about the student. In this cartoon, it may have really been necessary for the parents to come in and question the teacher to see how their child is being taught and treated in school.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. Parents don't blame the child for their procrastination of studying or bad studying habits. Nowadays, parents blame it on the teachers because they believe that they caused their child or children to have a lack of understanding.
